This year (2023), the iconic ALBERTINA Museum in Vienna marks its reopening 20 years ago, with the renovation of state rooms and the landmarks expansion from 2,000 sq. m to more than a thumping 28,000 sq. m. There are between 700,000 to 1,000,000 tickets sold per annum, as visitors are attracted by the combination of innovations and old traditions.
The ALBERTINA Museum has showcased more prints and drawings, in addition to exhibitions dedicated to graphic artists over the last 20 years, which is more than any other museum worldwide. In 2023, the popular art destination, located in one of the top 10 Vienna districts — Innere Stadt, is showing the Graphic Collection with 6 exhibitions.
On top of that, on the 50th anniversary of Pablo Picasso's death, you will have the opportunity to see 70 works from the legendary artist, which include unique ceramic pieces, besides prints and drawings. The exhibition will take place from 17th March 2023 until 18th June 2023.
From 7th March 2023 until 4th June 2023, the ALBERTINA Museum will present a collection of holdings by Alex Katz to pay tribute to the artist on his 95th birthday. Previously, principal works by Katz from the ALBERTINA Museum were on loan to the Guggenheim Museum and the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza.
Another exciting event, which is planned to take place this year, is a colossal exhibition of Gottfried Helnwein's masterpieces from the past 20 years to mark the 75th birthday of the Vienna-born artist. The ALBERTINA Museum will host the exhibition from 25th October 2023 until 18th February 2024.
As well as all that, in 2023, the museum will showcase famous creations by Georg Baselitz, Ofer Lellouche, Joel Sternfeld, Michelangelo and Yoshitomo Nara, among other artists.
