The 113-metre high Donaumarina Tower is being built in Handelskai of Vienna. It is set to become the tallest wooden hybrid building in the world.
Handelskai in Vienna will house a 113 m office building called the Donaumarina Tower. It will become the tallest wooden skyscraper worldwide, according to its developer; UBM, who bought the project from Signa Group for EUR 24.5 million.
The design of the record-breaking structure was executed by the world-renowned French architect Dominique Perrault. The Donaumarina Tower will comprise 32 upper floors and 4 underground floors, with approximately 44,000 sq. m of floor space. It will function solely as an office building.
Construction of the skyscraper is scheduled to start in Q1 2025 and the completion plans to take place by late 2026. At the moment, the master developer, UBM, has 250+ million sq. m of timber construction in progress — half in the office and half in the residential segment.
At a whopping height of 113 m, the Donaumarina Tower will beat the 85.4 m Ascent tower in Milwaukee, USA, which is currently the world's tallest building made of wood-hybrid construction. The HoHo development in Seestadt Aspern, Vienna is almost as tall, standing at 84 m. It has been occupied since 2020. There are even greater plans of structures around the world of up to 350 m to be constructed.
