From January 2024, new fees for toll vignettes are coming into effect.
Since 1997, drivers in Austria have been required to buy a toll vignette to use the highways and starting in January, new fees will come into effect. The changes will primarily affect day tourists and short-term visitors.
In 2024, a new one-day vignette will be offered at a price of EUR 8.6 per vehicle. The cost of an annual vignette will be the same, while a 2-month one will be 10 cents cheaper - EUR 28.9. At the same time, a 10-day vignette will cost EUR 11.5 in comparison with the current EUR 9.9.
Vignettes can be acquired in various places, from petrol stations to tourist information offices. You can also buy them online or via the Unterwegs application.
Please note that vignettes are required for every vehicle. This means that if you use more than one car on the autobahn, you have to acquire a vignette for each of them.
There are several stretches of roads in Austria that have their own payable tolls, so a regular vignette doesn't apply to them. These include the A1 Westautobahn between the Salzburg Nord junction and the German border, the A12 between the Kufstein-Süd junction and the German border, the A14 between the Hohenems junction and the German border, and the A26 Linzer Autobahn.
