Döbling (19th urban district) is one of the largest and most respectable areas of the Austrian capital. A large part of these areas is covered with forests and vineyards, and with tons of prestigious cottage zones.
It is located in the north-west of Vienna, away from the central regions, and from the north, it is bounded by the several Vienna Woods' hills. The area of the district is about 25 km2, with slightly more than half occupying green areas: forests, agricultural land, including vineyards, meadows, gardens, and parks.
Historically, in this place on the hills among the hunting grounds, nobles began to build their country houses, and then prosperous burghers who began to make wine.
Existing villages have grown, the population has increased, and in 1892 they were united - thus the 19th district of Döbling was founded. In the following years, mainly representatives of the middle and upper classes settled here.
Beginning in 1918, after the Social Democrats came to power, many characteristic buildings — huge communal houses — were erected in Döbling. Karl Marx Hof (Karl Marx Hof), a residential building with a length of 1100 m - the most striking and famous representative of such structures. Now, these municipal blocks are next to baroque mansions and villas along with the modern point of multi-storey buildings. Thus, it creates a unique urban architectural charm of Vienna.
