What to consider

Check your bike

You should always inspect the bike before accepting it so you don't have to pay for damages that you didn’t incur. Therefore, before you get on the bike, check the bolts, the condition of the frame, handlebars and seat, the air pressure in the tires, make sure the lights work and the brakes are in good condition. If you find any damage, you should contact the company’s hotline at the number listed in the app or on the website of your chosen rental service. For example, WienMobil Rad has a 24-hour hotline you can call at +43 1 385 01 89. A staff member will replace or repair the bike, or you may be able to take another bike.

Bicycle repair and replacement for long term rentals

If you're renting a bike for an extended period of time, be sure to confirm who is in charge of maintaining the bike. For example, the experts at Swapfiets will come to your location within 48 hours of your request and replace a flat tire or fix any other problem.

Theft

If your bike is stolen, you should immediately report it to the rental company and the police. In most cases, you will have to pay compensation to the rental company, even if the bike is insured. For example, WienMobil Rad will require you to pay EUR 75 no matter what.

How to save money when renting a bike

Most rental companies offer preferential rates if the client rents a bike for a longer period of time. In this case, the cost may be as much as 20-30% lower.

Rental companies often run promotions and make special offers for their customers. For example, WienMobil Rad offers a 50% discount for Wiener Linien pass holders who have one of the following transport tickets:

NBD! If you rent several bikes through one account, the discount only applies to the first bike.
