The Economist Intelligence Unit has once again placed Vienna at the top for most livable city in 2023. The annual rankings compare more than 170 cities worldwide.
Vienna, Austria has once again taken the top position in worldwide rankings comparing 173 cities for most liveable city in 2023. The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) bases livability scores on several factors: health care, culture and environment, education and infrastructure, and stability.
This isn’t the first time Vienna snagged the top spot – Vienna was also ranked number 1 in 2018, 2019, and 2022. The city’s strengths, according to the EIU, is its strong health care and education systems, well-developed infrastructure, and overall stability. The notable weakness is that major sporting events are lacking.
Vienna beat out other cities such as Copenhagen, Denmark, Melbourne, Australia, Sydney, Australia, and Vancouver, Canada who round out the top 5 on the list. In general, stability has slightly declined in most countries researched due to the rising costs of living, civil unrest, and the residual effects from COVID lockdowns.
These rankings are particularly useful to those considering an international move, or even those planning their future holiday destination, as these scores help individuals understand potential challenges they could face in their everyday lives.
