Vienna is the cultural capital of Europe and offers many interesting events, especially in the summer when tourism is at its peak. August is one of the best times to visit the city because of the many festivals, exhibitions, shows, and concerts put on each year.
Everyone can find something that interests them. Austria is home to many museums and cultural centres that offer classical and contemporary artwork. We have prepared a list of the best events in Vienna that are scheduled to take place in August 2022.

Classical Music Concerts: Mozart, Vivaldi & Haydn

On August 2, 16, and 30, the Vienna Philharmonic (Musikverein Wien) will host classical music concerts by famous European composers. Visitors will be able to listen to well-known works, such as Quartet No. 3 in G major, K. 156 (K. 134b) by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the Four Seasons by Antonio Vivaldi, and Hob.III:39 by Joseph Haydn. Ticket prices range from EUR 29 to EUR 49.

Throughout August, the Vienna Philharmonic will also be hosting Vienna Mozart Concerts. The event features world-famous singers and musicians that dress in luxurious historical costumes and wigs. Performances include the most popular fragments of symphonies and solo concerts, as well as overtures and duets. Ticket prices range from EUR 57 to EUR 352.

Film Festival

Each summer, a large cinema theatre appears in Rathausplatz. From July 2 to September 4, the festival program includes open-air film screenings, ballet performances, and concerts by local celebrities and well-known stars, such as the Rolling Stones, Falco, Queen, David Bowie, Tina Turner, Katy Perry, and Coldplay. Opera performances feature popular works, such as Don Giovanni, Carmen, and La Traviata, and there will be DJs playing sets several days a week. Attendees can also visit gourmet restaurants serving freshly prepared meals, as well as many other highlights.
Note: Entrance to the festival is free of charge, and daily entertainment starts at 20:30.

Gustav Klimt Exhibition

“KLIMT – The Immersive Experience” is an exhibition with more than 200 works by famous artists that are projected onto walls. Paintings include Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer II, also known as the Lady in Gold, Danaë, Judith and the Head of Holofernes, the Kiss, and many others. Visitors will experience a virtual tour that is accompanied by music and lighting, which explores the life of Gustav Klimt. With the help of projections and video animation, people can view the paintings and architectural masterpieces created by the artists. At the end of the exhibition, visitors can wear virtual reality glasses and see seven of Klimt’s most famous paintings through the eyes of the artist.
Note: The exhibition is open Tuesday through Sunday until September 4. It is located at Karl-Farkas-Gasse 19, 1030 Wien. Entry on weekdays costs EUR 20 for adults and EUR 11 for children, and entry on weekends costs EUR 22 for adults and EUR 13 for children.

Ottakringer Bierfest

Ottakringer Bierfest is a festival for beer connoisseurs, as well as those looking to try new varieties and tastes. The event also features special performances and beer competitions. Every Wednesday, visitors can perform on the open stage with a song from any genre. Every Tuesday, people can join beer-themed yoga classes that are available on the sunny terrace of the brewery. Local cafes offer street food and have large TVs for watching football and various other sporting events.

The festival takes place at the Ottakringer Brewery, which is located at Ottakringer Pl. 1, 1160. Visitors are welcome to take part in the festival from June 30 to September 2. The event is held Monday through Saturday from 4 pm to midnight. Entry is free of charge.

Classical Concerts in Annakirche

Klassik in der Annakirche is a classical music concert that is situated In the main hall of one of the most beautiful Catholic churches in Vienna. Concerts showcase some of the greatest composers of all time and are held in the evenings. Visitors can enjoy a pleasant and unique atmosphere in the baroque church, which provides excellent acoustics for enhancing the sound quality of the music. The concerts feature many famous pieces, such as String Quartet No.14 - Spring by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Op. 59 N. 3 - Rasumowski by Ludwig van Beethoven, String Quartet No. 14 - Death and the Maiden by Franz Schubert, and String Quartet, Op. 76, No. 5 by Joseph Haydn, among other masterpieces. Some works will be performed using historic instruments, such as violins, violas, and cellos, that were made in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
Note: Concerts will be held from August 2 to 30, and performances begin at 8 pm. The price of a ticket is EUR 33.

Summer in the MuseumsQuartier Wien

MuseumsQuartier Wien is one of the most significant museum complexes in the world. It is home to the Leopold Museum, the Museum of Modern Art Ludwig Foundation (MUMOK), and the former Imperial Stables. The space covers an area of ​​60,000 sq. m and provides places for locals and tourists to relax. MuseumsQuartier offers many well-known historical and cultural objects. The Leopold Museum has the largest collection of works by the Austrian artist Egon Schiele. Afrika-Tage Wien 2022 – African Days in Vienna

The Afrika-Tage Wien Festival is one of the most vibrant summer events that take place in the capital of Austria. Attendees can learn more about African culture through music, dances, food, crafts, clothing, and jewellery. In the evenings, the event offers various concerts by acclaimed performers, such as Damian "Jr Gong" Marley, Clinton Fearon, Sona Jobarteh, Groundation, and DJ Elephant Man. The festival features hula hoop dances, belly dancing, and drumming circles, as well as a children’s program that includes national dance classes, discos, camel and pony rides, drumming classes, book readings by Patrick Addai, and face painting.

The Afrika-Tage Wien Festival is held on the Danube Island (Donauinsel) from July 22 to August 8. The price of a ticket starts at EUR 10.

Kultursommer

Kultursommer is one of the largest summer festivals in Vienna. It takes place at 37 different venues throughout the city. There is something for everything. The event features pop, rock, and hip-hop performers, DJs, dancers, cabaret performers, and singers. Attendees will be able to enjoy several theatrical performances, such as Alice in Wonderland (Alice im Wunderland) and the Flying Tailor (Der fliegende Schneider). The event also has a special programme for families with children, which includes interactive book readings, circus shows, theatre workshops, and dance classes.

The Kultursommer Festival will last until August 14, and admission is free for everyone.

ImPulsTanz 2022: Vienna International Dance Festival

Founded in 1984, ImPulsTanz has become the biggest contemporary dance festival in the world. Every summer, a unique program of seminars, workshops, and performances takes place in Vienna. Thousands of dancers, choreographers, and artists come together from all over the world to perform their spectacular shows.

Attendees can choose from more than 100 performances at 20 different locations located throughout the city. During the festival, there will be dance performances, shows by young choreographers, movies, musical programmes, art installations, and book readings. For those who wish to try dancing, there are 128 classes that range from hip-hop to ballet.

The ImPulsTanz 2022 Festival takes place from July 7 to August 7. Some events are free while others have a starting cost of EUR 8.
